What is Biomedical Engineering?
Biomedical Engineering is a field that utilizes aspects of engineering in order to develop biomedical inventions for the purpose of solving problems in biology and medicine, with the goal of improving the quality and effectiveness of patient care.
The emergence of the field of Biomedical Engineering began around the 1960's, in which Biomedical Engineering pioneers like Jonathan C Newell began applying their engineering background to medicine to make the Biomedical Engineering field possible.
Biomedical Engineering pioneer, Jonathan C Newell, contributed to the development of Biomedical Engineering as a field at New York, where he most notably worked on a Electrical Impedance Tomography project with professor David Isaacson. This project utilized imaging technology for Isaacson's medical study, which led many people to apply Electrical Impedance Tomography to medicine and therefore boost the development of the Biomedical Engineering field.
